Human Resources for Health Stakeholders during an annual National Principals' Conference

The Government of Uganda and the European Union has been supporting the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Ministry of Education & Sports (MoES) in the development of human resources for the health sector in Uganda under the 8th European Development Fund (EDF). Since 2003 the project  focused at achieving a well-trained, motivated health sector workforce to meet the current and future health needs of Uganda, ultimately improving the health status of the population. By way of targeted support the project has been working towards ensuring that: the ‘right number of people’, with the ‘right skills’, are available in the ‘right places’, at the ‘right time’, doing the ‘right work’, at the ‘right cost’, with the ‘right attitude, and the ‘right level of commitment’.

The DHRH project focused on achieving four result areas i.e.,

(1) Improved inter- ministerial as well as GoU-NGO coordination and prioritisation to HRH in preparation of future budget support

(2) Strengthened capacity for HRH policy development, planning and management (in particular performance management) capacity at various levels.

(3) Developed HRH Training and Training Management capacity in line with health policy requirements

(4) Up-graded physical infrastructure and equipment in selected health training schools to enable PHC staff to deliver the minimum health care package in line with health policies and strategies.
