Establishment Soroti Nursing School was started in the 1970 having been constructed by the Ministry of Health. It was officially opened in 1972. The training of comprehensive nurses started in 1992 in line with Government Policy of training health workers to address promote preventive, rehabilitative as well as curative care in Ugandan Communities.
Ownership Soroti School of Registered Nursing and Comprehensive Nursing is a Government Owned Health Training Institution under the Ministry of Education and Sports. Mandate: The mandate of the school is to train competent and competitive health professionals capable of serving in all parts of Uganda, the region and the entire World. Baseline Information Human Resources The school is equipped with teaching and non teaching staff who support implementation of activities at the school. Infrastructure Despite the fact that the school does not have sufficient room for expansion, it has the basic infrastructure to support implementation of school activities. The basic structures include administration block/offices, a recreation hall, four classrooms, two practical demonstration rooms, a library, a dinning hall, 4 halls of residence with a capacity of 120 students. There are also six staff houses and a warden’s house. However, the offices, classrooms and dormitories are not adequate to accommodate the increasing numbers of students being admitted. A number of facilities notably staff houses require urgent renovation. The school lacks a computer laboratory despite having computer training in the curriculum. The available school infrastructure supports school activities like; School classroom teaching, clinical teaching, community activities, and research Student Enrolment At the time of preparing this Strategic Plan, Student population stood at 178 of whom 45 were finalists of November 2006, 46 were in third year and 37 first year students were expected in September 2006. The established capacity of the school is 120 students comprising of 90 females and 30 males, however this established capacity has since been surpassed hence putting a strain on the resources available. Unfortunately increasing student population has not been marched with investment in infrastructure to accommodate the increasing student numbers 
Academic Programmes The school runs a three year Diploma Course in Registered Comprehensive Nursing. The course has been running since 1992 and takes direct entrants from S.6. Plans have been finalized to introduce a programme for nurses will to upgrade in Comprehensive Nursing. The programme is slated to start in May 2007. Sources of Funding Currently the school has two main sources of funds; there are grants from the Ministry of education and Sports and there is money generated from the privately sponsored students. Vision, Mission and Values Continuous growth and development of Soroti School of Registered Comprehensive Nursing will be judged by the extent to which the school can in the distant future realize its vision and mission. Vision A reputable institution for training competent, multi-skilled nurses in the region. Mission Statement To train registered comprehensive nurses able to provide holistic and high quality health care services for sustainable socio economic development. School Values Soroti School of registered Comprehensive Nursing is driven by the following values; Transparency; as a school we shall be open in all ways, telling the truth and ensuring that all resources are put to the best use in order to realize value for money. Efficiency; In the health profession there is no room for error given the devastating consequences. In this line therefore, as a school we shall at all time endeavor to do right for purposes of promoting good health and uplifting the profession. Effectiveness; Soroti School of Registered Comprehensive Nursing has built its name over time and will continue to do everything possible to keep the name shining primarily by ensuring effectiveness in dealing with all stakeholders, in service delivery and this should be manifested in the nurses produced by the school. Professionalism; The nursing training profession calls for diligence and commitment on the part of the students, but more so the staff. As a school we shall at all time follow to the letter the professional imperatives as spelt out in the professional code of conduct. Commitment; As a school, we fully appreciate that in the world today there are many political, social and economic problems which if not watched and ignored can affect commitment of staff. All levels of staff promise to be committed to realization of the vision of the school. This commitment will also be inculcated in the nurses going through the school.
Integrity; Soroti School of Comprehensive Nursing recognizes the need for transparency and accountability in all its operations. In its policies, activities, in the teaching and learning, and while interacting with students, the school will always be mindful of the image of the individual’s including staff, students, clients, patients and the institution as a whole.
